A Stress Fracture Could be Hiding in your feet..-by Dr. Joseph E. Mechanik

If you have been walking on a sore foot for more than a week, it could be a sign of a stress fracture. Stress fractures are small cracks in the bones of the foot that can occur when too much force is placed on the foot. This can happen when you are running, jumping, or walking for long periods of time.

It is important to get a proper diagnosis from a podiatrist if you think you may have a stress fracture. Stress fractures can be difficult to diagnose and can be mistaken for other conditions such as tendonitis or plantar fasciitis. If you do have a stress fracture, the treatment usually consists of protected weight bearing in a fracture boot or cast. This can take up to six weeks to heal.

It is important not to delay treatment of stress fractures. If left untreated, the fracture can become worse and can lead to more serious complications. It is also important to rest and avoid activities that put pressure on the foot until the fracture has healed.

If you have been walking on a sore foot for more than a week, it is important to get it checked out by a podiatrist. Don’t wait to get treatment if you think you may have a stress fracture. Taking the time to get the proper diagnosis and treatment can help you avoid more serious complications and get you back to your normal activities sooner.
